SOhome AS is a company with a focus on the the Maritime IT sector and is located in Bergen, Norway. The company began its operations in 2004 with more than 60 years of experience from international companies as Alcatel and Nexans within IT infrastructure. With a permanent place in the Norwegian working group within ISO/IEC, SOhome ensures that its customers always receive products that are up to international standards.
After three years of operations SOhome supplies it solutions to large parts of the Norwegian shipping industry and is involved in offshore projects both in Norway and abroad. The company’s customers include ship owners and shipyards as well as ship installation contractors. SOhome used two years to develop Maritime LAN with all of the necessary DNV certificates together with Nexans, and as the market’s quickest and most advanced network the quantity of orders is increasing greatly. SOhome and Nexans have established training centres for this in Bergen that covers all of Scandinavia.
SOhome has developed Maritime LAN. This is a structured cable system for ships and other floating entities. Together with Nexans in Belgium the company produced DNV approved cables, contacts and patch panels and a Maritime LAN solution for use in the shipping industry. The whole solution is tested and approved for 1,000 MHz, which is more than enough for 10 Gigabit Ethernet or quicker.
SOhome supplies Maritime LAN to the Institute of Marine Research’s vessels in Norway and UK, the ship owners Grieg, Odfjell, Westfal Larsen and DOF in addition to the ship yards Bergen Yards, Flekkefjord Slipp and Karmsund Maritime. The company has supplied products to Aker Yards the last two years and today delivers to all five shipyards in Norway as well as Romania and Brazil. SOhome implements design and complete IT deliveries and possesses testing instruments for carrying out the certification of Maritime LAN.
SOhome has managed to become western Norway’s biggest distributor of MGE UPS solutions for shipping and offshore. The company distributes the whole spectrum of small and large online UPS solutions. Even though the largest amount of SOhome’s customers are in shipping there is an increasing demand coming from the offshore industry and land-based installations.
SOhome’s Maritime LAN solution has been further developed for the offshore market through the company producing products that are MUD based and waterproof, but still maintain a high speed and comply with standards. In this connection SOhome imports fibre and has one of western Norway’s largest stores of fibre products. At this location SOhome sells goods and services within fibre technology and the company possesses the necessary measuring instruments and splicing machines.
