Who should manage state share of Statoil?

A political majority in the Parliament says it is open to the idea of moving stewardship of the state’s shares in Statoil from the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The change would occur as part of the plan to partially privatise Statoil, which is currently wholly owned by the state. Top officials in the Christian Democratic, Conservative, Progress, Liberal and Center parties all said that with Statoil shares listed on the stock exchange it would be inappropriate for Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, which awards production licenses in the North Sea, to remain one of Statoil’s owners of record.
