The Norwegian Postal Service plans to become one of Norway's largest retailers.

By March 2001, postal officials said, they will open the first of 330 retail stores, most of them on the site of existing post offices.

People who come to buy a stamp will also be tempted by books, CDs, mobile telephones, office supplies and an array of financial services. "Our goal is that you can buy everything from books to stocks in the stores," postal service spokeswoman Line Fredriksen told the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv. The postal service also plans to open small post offices in 1,100 existing stores and petrol stations around the country.
