The evolution of the 16 editions of ICFF made the fair grow and require more space in the Javits Center. For the last several years, the Fair has commissioned a design firm to create a connecting structure to connect the different areas of the Fair.
MMW, a multidiscipline firm based in Norway, was engaged for the choice project at ICFF 2004. Widely published in Europe, MMW´s distinctly modernist work spans the spheres of culture, graphic design, housing, interiors, stage and film, conceptual and theoretical work.
The firm's design for the ICFF incorporates pneumatic solutions and construction techniques that depend on air pressure to form structure between a system of ribs for supports.
Made of a translucent material developed for life jackets and other types of survival equipment, the ICFF Connector devised by mmw consists of a self-contained tunnel with a fluid, organic shape.
The idea of this project came from thinking of having a walkthrough kind of an animal-like structure like a whale like an inner animal walk, says Magne M.Wiggen owner of MMW and partner in charge of the company.
