Svalbard Strategic Grant allocations

NOK 2.85 million to workshops and collaborative activities in Svalbard research

The Research Council of Norway has allocated funding to two workshops and six projects through Svalbard Science Forum's funding program Svalbard Strategic Grant (SSG).

The call in November 2015 had up to NOK 3.0 million for workshops and projects that promote the strategic objectives of Svalbard Science Forum (SSF), including coordination and collaborative efforts in research activities in Svalbard.

The SSF received a total of 15 applications. Applications were processed administratively by a panel composed of in-house staff and external experts with experience from Svalbard. The final funding decision has been made by the administration in the Research Council of Norway (RCN).

Priority in this call was given to workshops or projects that:

  • Establishing new collaborative research networks (or flagships) in Svalbard

  • Following up on previous workshops organized or funded by SSF

  • Increasing mobility between research communities in Svalbard

  • Developing existing networks, including the four Ny-Ålesund Flagships

  • Making information on research activities in Svalbard more accessible
