Statoil to boost safety response in several fields

Statoil will station a search and rescue helicopter on the Norwegian Sea's Heidrun platform effective July 1. The move, which follows collaboration by operators Statoil, Shell and Norsk Hydro, is intended to strengthen emergency response procedures in the Halten/Nordland area, which includes the Norne, Heidrun, Asgard, Draugen and Njord fields. In addition, more modern vessels will gradually replace the standby vessels and some of the lifeboats. As a result of the upgrading, one of the standby vessels will be taken out of operation. Statoil also will upgrade survival suits used during helicopter journeys. The suits will be equipped with dual area beacons whose signals can be registered by the helicopter.
