Statoil Test The CompRiser

The CompRiser designed for drilling and production in deepwaters was developed by Kvaerner and Conoco and is currently being tested by Statoil on the Heidrun field, as stated by Statoil. Statoil provided financial support for the development of this riser, composed of carbon fibre and epoxy resin, therefore half the weight of a steel riser. Drilling rigs would normally operate 400 meters in depth due to the weight of the equipment, but the new CompRiser can reach water depths of 800 meters. Never before has a composite riser been tested on live production wells.
