Statoil still welcome in Iran

Iran wants to continue the cooperation with Statoil on the development of the world's largest sub sea oil field, South Pass, located off the Iranian coast.

Iran wants to continue the cooperation with Statoil on the development of the world's largest sub sea oil field, South Pass, located off the Iranian coast.

This was announced by an Iranian delegation which arrived in Oslo Tuesday.

The delegation is in Norway to gather information around the charges against Statoil of alleged involvement in corruption, in connection with a controversial consultancy contract in Iran.

-We still have a few details which we want clarified, but when this is completed, Statoil is of course welcome in Iran, a delegations spokesman said.

It therefore seems that the controversial contract which led to Statoil CEO Olav Fjell's resignation has not harmed Statoil's relations with its Iranian partners, according to NRK.

In addition to its discussions with the Statoil ledership, the Iranian delegation has also had talks with Oil and Energy Minister Einar Steensnaes and the Attorney General.

The delegation will have further talks with Statoil leaders on Wednesday.
