Statoil seeks ships for Barents field

As part of its development of the Snow White natural gas field in the Barents Sea, Statoil has asked shipbuilders in Europe to bid on the construction of four LNG tank ships at an estimated cost of USD 650 million (NOK 5.8 billion). Statoil’s plan for Snow White is to pipe the gas from an offshore platform to a treatment plant just outside the north Norwegian city of Hammerfest. From there the new ships will carry the gas to market – most likely to terminals in the United States and Portugal.
