South Africa Norway call open by the Norwegian Research Council

NOK 40 mill. and ZAR 10 mill. have been made available for the first and only call in the South Africa – Norway Research Co-operation on Climate, the Environment and Clean Energy (SANCOOP). Application deadline is 4 September 2013 at 13:00.

As the name implies, the programme will focus on research cooperation within three main areas: Environment, climate change and clean energy. It includes research on adaptation to climate and environmental change, a theme that will also open up for interested social scientists.

The new programme follows the pattern of the two previous bilateral cooperation programmes between the two countries and is thus based on equal partnership. As a consequence, all applications will have to be submitted jointly by a principal investigator (PI) based at an eligible research institution in Norway and one PI based in a comparable institution in South Africa. The programme is managed jointly by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Research Council of Norway (RCN).

Weather Up to NOK 1 million per year over a three-year period will be available for each project. At least 50 % of the budgets have to be allocated to the South African partner. Emphasis is put on including young researchers from historically disadvantaged backgrounds in South Africa and female researchers in both countries in the projects.
