SN Power opens hydro power plants in Chile

SN Power, owned by Norway's Statkraft (60%) and Norfund (40%), has inaugurated two hydro power plants in Chile, which will contribute with more than 310 MW of clean energy.

This is enough to supply more than 900 thousand Chilean households with renewable electricity.

At the opening, Energy Minister Ricardo Raineri remarked that “Chile needs to enlarge and diversify its energy matrix in order to continue growing. The launching of La Higuera and La Confluencia run-of river hydro power plants is very relevant because it implies the entrance of a new actor to the energy market, which will help our country to increase its energy generation in a clean, efficient and environmentally friendly way”.

The two hydro power plants will reduce Chile`s CO2 emissions with more than 900 thousand tons per year, equal to removing from circulation more than 250 thousand vehicles.
