Trolltech® announced today that SMART Technologies has adopted Qt®, Trolltech’s framework for cross-platform application development, to assist in creating its Notebook™ collaborative learning software for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux. Qt helps companies save time developing software to multiple platforms, and helped SMART Technologies cut development time and quickly expand the market opportunity for its product.
SMART Technologies chose Qt because it is a platform independent framework and frees their developers from having to perform platform-specific maintenance. Developers focus on building the core value of each product, instead of platform-specific maintenance. Qt also eliminates the need to invest resources in multiple languages, toolkits and environments.
“Qt provides an easy to use framework which allows us to focus on developing our applications rather than spending unnecessary time on the unique nuances of the operating systems that these applications run on,” says Shannon Goodman, senior manager, software development for SMART Technologies. “It allows us more freedom in our technology, and therefore provides us the flexibility to move in different directions.”
Qt sets the standard for high-performance, cross-platform software development. Some of the world’s largest software companies – such as Autodesk®, Adobe®, Disney and Skype® – rely on Qt to create their products. Qt provides a development platform for creating applications that run on all major operating systems (Windows, Linux and Mac) and is designed to help organizations streamline their application development, enable software differentiation, and increase productivity.
