Siemens snags $241M UMTS contract in Norway

Under the agreement, Siemens will upgrade NetCom’s GSM infrastructure with UMTS technology. After first implementing the GSM network and UMTS base stations in southern Norway, the new contract covers GSM and UMTS radio and core equipment in the northern part of the country.

NetCom will offer its UMTS services to more than 1.2 million subscribers by March 2005, Siemens said.

The final contract will be signed in the next few weeks and implementation will the begin, the Germany supplier noted.

Siemens said 12 of the 22 UMTS networks in commercial operation around the work are from Siemens and its partner NEC Corp.
