Siemens contract at a depth of 1500 metres

Siemens has entered into an agreement with FMC Technologies regarding the supply of Bennex Anguila Cobra Head termination solutions. The solution will guarantee safe connections of combined hydraulic and power cables for a subsea facility at up to 1500 metres depth off the coast of Angola.

The Bennex Anguila Cobra Head units from Siemens will be supplied in the second quarter of 2012 and will contribute to combining the power and signal supply for five different oil fields that make up a total oil reserve of 750 million barrels of oil. The solution is tailored for great depths, which is something the fields on the coast of Angola offer.

The cost-effective solutions from Siemens contribute to increased expansion of underwater power and signal supply, and replace corresponding solutions that are currently installed above sea level. By laying such supplies on the sea bed, the oil production becomes more energy-efficient and has less environmental impact.

- The supplies help secure our position in the market as a supplier of subsea distribution products and systems says Erik Stensrud Head of Sales, Oil & Gas, Subsea Products.

The supply consists of complete delivery and installation of structures in Angola, and termination solutions for electrical cables and hydraulic distribution.

- The awarding of this contract is a visible sign of innovation and focus on product development in a global subsea market that is continuously evolving, says Stensrud.

The contract fits in well with a number of other projects the company has carried out for various subsea installations in Angola in recent years.
