Shipbuilding orders roll in

Aker Maritime's Langsten Slip & Båtbyggeri, a shipyard in Romsdal, has been awarded three new contracts with a combined value of up to USD 102 million (NOK 900 million). The yard will built two anchor-handling vessels for A.P. Møller in Denmark as well as an Arctic shrimp trawler for Clearwater Ocean Prawns Venture in Canada. The contracts will keep the main shipyard and a variety of its subcontractors busy through 2002. Norwegian shipyards have reported a blizzard of new contracts signed before Jan. 1. One reason may be that Norway eliminated its 9 percent shipbuilding subsidy on that date.
