The Norwegian shipbuilding industry has the wind in its sails.
This week the Aker Battvaag Group reported a new 7-ship contract worth a record USD 160 million (NOK 1.5 billion), while Aukra Industrier AS has been awarded new contracts with USD 84 million (NOK 800 million). Battvaag will build the seven ships for Gulf Offshore N.S. Ltd. In Aberdeen. The group now has 21 ships on order for a total contract value of USD 420 million (NOK 4 billion). Aukra Industrier, meanwhile, will be hiring an additional 20 people, bringing total employees to 200. They will be fully engaged for at least the next two years.
