Scanmatic supplies NOV with internal and external camera & RFID inspection technology for oil offloading hose at Goliat in the Barents Sea

Scanmatic has been awarded a contract with National Oilwell Varco (NOV) for the design, development, engineering, and supply of a complete hose inspection system, both internal and external of an oil offloading hose from a developed and modified Stern Discharge System (SDS) to meet the special requirements applicable for the Goliat Field in the Barents sea outside the Norwegian city of Hammerfest.

MONITORING HOSES
- Project includes supply of winch, umbilical, instrumentation, cameras and use of RFID systems to detect actual hose segment being inspected, camera systems for both automatic and manual detection (image recognition) of potential hose tears, dents and oval segments, says Jan Erik Norli, Area Sales Manager at Scanmatic.

All data is processed centrally and interfaced to the platforms main monitoring and control system.

IMAGE RECOGNITION
- The development phase will be focused on development of image recognition as well as development of new RFID antennas for use submerged in a steel flange as well as being within a steel enforced hose, Norli says.

System is being supplied for usage within ATEX Zone 1, DnV certified and CE marked, as well as fulfilling the NORSOK standard.
