Scandinavian power net to grow

Swedish and Finnish electric power executives are negotiating with Norway's Statkraft to expand their access to Norwegian hydropower.

The major obstacle is limited capacity in the power lines between Norway and Sweden, so Statkraft and its Swedish counterpart, Svenska Kraftnät, are jointly planning an expansion of the network. A system of new subsea cables would cost about USD 350 million (NOK 3.3 billion) while an expansion of aerial transmission lines would cost between USD 75 million (NOK 700 million) and USD 150 million (NOK 1.4 billion).
