Rune Andersen becomes counsellor for science and technology in Brazil

Andersen has worked for Innovation Norway since 2000 and in their office in Rio de Janeiro since 2012.

The Research Council and Innovation Norway have already jointly funded science and technology counsellors in Japan, India and Singapore for several years.

On October 12th Arvid Hallén, CEO of The Research Council of Norway, and Anita Krohn Traaseth, CEO of Innovation Norway, signed an agreement to establish joint science and technology counsellors in South Africa and Brazil.

“Very many of Norway's most innovative firms have been supported by the Research Council and Innovation Norway”, says Krohn Traaseth. “Through joint science and technology counsellors we are trying to create better flow for the companies we work with.”

“It is efficient and logical that we collaborate on these positions”, says Arvid Hallén. “Both our organisations are working to strengthen the knowledge-intensive business sector opportunities abroad, but we have different core areas. We are more geared towards research and development at an early stage while Innovation Norway is working on the development and commercialization of solutions and technologies that have come a little longer”, adds Hallén.

The science and technology counsellors will work to strengthen research cooperation and assist Norwegian businesses in securing access to markets, contacts and networks.

The Research Council of Norway has a focus on international cooperation, and Brazil is among the countries that receive extra attention. Memorandums of Understanding have been signed by Brazilian and Norwegian ministries, and last year, agreements were signed between the Research Council of Norway, its sister organization CNPq and Innovation Norway's sister organisation FINEP. To follow up these agreements will be an important task for the new science and technology counsellor.

In 2014 the Research Council of Norway published a “Roadmap for bilateral research cooperation” with Brazil. The document serves as a guide to Brazil’s innovation and research system, and suggests areas for collaboration.
