Record year for seafood

Norwegian seafood exports this year will reach about USD 3.5 billion (NOK 32 billion), a six percent increase over last year and a new record.

Of the total, salmon exports will account for nearly 40 percent, thanks in part to high prices in the European Union. But the greatest growth in Norwegian seafood consumption took place in Russia and other eastern European nations, where mackerel and herring were the fish of choice. Pan Fish and Fjord Seafood, both listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, have posted third-quarter, pre-tax profits of USD 70 million (NOK 638.6 million) and USD 10.6 million (NOK 96.5 million) respectively.
