Norwegian natural gas is a major energy source in Europe. Every fifth European home is now heated by Norwegian gas, NRK reports.
During the past 12 months, Norway's Gassco has exported more than 40 billion standard cubic metres of gas to Europe, more than a quarter of the total Norwegian export of gas.
The total export of gas from Norway reached a new record during the period.
Most of the natural gas from the Norwegian Continental Shelf is exported through giant subsea pipelines.
European nations depend on Norwegian gas. In Great Britain, more than 30 per cent of all homes are heated by gas from the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
The Norwegian gas is received, processed and distributed through three main terminals at Kollsnes, Kårstø and Nyhamn in Western Norway.
