Proposed budget: More money for the transport sector

In the proposal for the 2013 fiscal budget, the Government has allocated an extra NOK 1.5 billion towards the National Transport Plan.

This was announced by Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg on NRK TV News Sunday evening, and he called the Transport Sector the "budget winner".

He said altogether NOK 100 billion more will be used on roads and railway. He called this the "effort of all times" for the national transport sector.

However, the political opposition reacts to the fact that this "effort of all timeas" will have to be financed by motorists, through toll roads across the nation.

Also, leader of the Christian Democrats and head of the Parliamentary Transport Committee, Knut Arild Hareide, says this comes too late.

-It has taken this government seven years to discover that we need to put more money into roads and railways, Hareide says.
