Oslo one of The New York Times’ “Top Destinations" for 2013

The New York Times recently published their list of "Top Destinations" for 2013, and included Oslo as one of the 46 places to visit.

The New York Times has listed Oslo as one of their top destinations in their annual list. Oslo appears along side cities such as Accra and Rio on the popular list. The newspapers argues Oslo has made a conscious effort at lifting its status as an attractive tourist destination, both through the new Astrup Fearnley Museum and the newly developed neighborhood Tjuvholmen. Tourists might also be interested in visiting gourmet resturants such as Maaemo. All these elements draw visitors to a destination according to the newspaper.

Oslo

Tor E. Sannerud , the CEO of VisitOslo thinks that the city’s recent developments are drawing people in, as well as the attention the Astrup Fearnly Museum and the sale of the Munch painting “Scream” is drawing the American crowds in.

However, Sannerud thinks that Norway could become even better at promoting its capital rather than only focusing on fjords and mountains.

"There is more focus on our national cultural heritage such as churches rather than opera and art. Maybe we should care a little bit more about Oslo being Norway's biggest destination, Sannerud wonders.
