The Norwegian Oil Directorate foresees an 8-percent rise in oil and gas
production in 2001. The directorate projected that oil and gas production
measured in oil equivalents would rise from 240 million cubic metres in 2000
to about 260 million cubic metres in 2001. Daily oil production, which
averaged 3.1 million barrels in 2000, is seen rising to 3.3 million in 2001.
Norway is now producing more oil over time than it discovers; but gas
discoveries are outpacing gas production.
