Offshore Communications VSAT Contract for RigNet

RigNet signs contract extension for managed communications services on two Norwegian sector North Sea offshore rigs

RigNet has signed a two-year contract extension to continue delivering managed communications for two world-class semi-submersible offshore drilling rigs: Transocean Barents and Transocean Spitsbergen, both operating in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

A high-performance and secure network is a high priority for the oil and gas community, ensuring effective and reliable communications, both offshore and onshore, and access to business-critical IT applications.

As part of the contract extension, RigNet will deliver a fully-managed end-to-end IP network solution, relying on VSAT technology for last-mile connectivity, to ensure that the rigs derive greater value from its network services through increased standardization and innovation.

The solution includes VoIP, enterprise data and Internet access services supported by 24/7 network monitoring and support from RigNet's Network Operations Center and, if required, local field technician support. The end user experience is improved through a WAN optimization service powered by Riverbed® Steelhead® appliances.

Said Øyvind Folge, RigNet's Area Manager for the Nordic Region and Continental Europe, "We are very pleased to be continuing our service to the world's largest offshore driller on these two important semi-submersible rigs operating in the waters off Norway.

RigNet is a leading global provider of managed remote communications, networks and collaborative applications dedicated to the oil and gas industry, focusing on offshore and onshore drilling rigs, energy production facilities and energy maritime.
