Norwegian environmental group wins prize

The Nordic Council awarded its 2000 Nordic Environment Prize to the Norwegian environmental organization Bellona, which will receive prize money of USD 40,050 (DEK 350,000).

The award panel recognized Bellona for its work monitoring the dangers of nuclear pollution in northwestern Russia. The fruits of Bellona's work include the establishment of environmental groups in Russia and increased co-operation between Nordic and Russian authorities on regional environmental issues.
