Internet search engine leader Google's new Instant Messaging service will use Norwegian technology.

The Kistefos company Global IP Sounds will provide technology designed to bring top sound quality to services like IP (Internet Protocol) telephony.

GIPS CEO Gary P. Hermansen told financial daily Dagens Næringsliv's web site that the Google deal was extremely important.

"Google's use of GIPS technology for Google Talk is an enormous acknowledgement of our solution and our ability to provide the best sound quality over the Internet," Hermansen told dn.no.

According to Hermansen over 200 million users had downloaded the new Google program, and that this would help GIPS technology to become the industry standard for high-quality IP conversation.
