Norway welcomes new Yugoslavian leader

The new Yugoslavian president, Vijislav Kostunica, capped a friendly visit to Oslo with meetings in which Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Foreign Minister Thorbjørn Jagland promised immediate humanitarian aid of USD 3.2 million (NOK 30 million) and economic support of USD 15 million (NOK 140 million) for the rest of the year. Norway was one of Kostunica's strongest supporters in his campaign to unseat Slobodan Milosevic, the last of Europe's dictators, in last month's election.
