Norway-U.S. salmon alliance

Salmon farming specialist Fjord Seafoods has found itself a strong American platform for growth. It is merging with ContiSea, a salmon farming company in Maine. ContiSea currently enjoys about 10 percent of the sales that its new Norwegian partner does, but the American market for Atlantic farmed salmon is growing fast. The merged company will be the second or third largest of its kind in the world. One of ContiSea’s subsidiaries, Atlantic Salmon of Maine (ASM), was established in 1987 by Norwegian Morten Helgesen.
