Norway and neighbours to bid on summer Olympics

Oslo, Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Malmö plan to make a joint bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

The driving force behind the three-nation bid is Gothenberg. Swedish Trade Minister Leif Pagrotsky said hosting the Olympics would provide a stage for showcasing the Öresund region - and in particular the spectacular new Öresund Bridge linking Copenhagen and Malmö. "The region is growing together," he told Aftenposten. "The Öresund Bridge helps to bring Denmark and Sweden together. Roads, railway and air traffic further help to reduce the distance."
