Northern Norway may become Norway's new growth engine

The North of Norway has rich access to natural resources which may make it the new growth engine.

"Northern Norway has great access to natural resources and we are now in a phase where infrastructure is being built in order to take advantage of these resources. This contributes to growth in the region. At the same time we are experiencing economic stagnation in other parts of Norway, which makes it possible for Northern Norway to take the role as an engine of growth in the coming years," Jan-Frode Janson, CEO in Sparebank1, explains.

In order for the business sector in Northern Norway to succeed in an international market, Janson thinks it is important for businesses to invest in innovation and creativity. Another criteria for success is cooperation.

"Cooperation in groups is important in order to meet the requirements for quality and delivery from the international market. The combination of being both local and international is important for the further development of Northern Norway's indudstry. This places several demands on leadership in Northern Norway," Janson says.
