Norsk Hydro is to spend a total of NOK 5.4 billion on expanding and refurbishing the aluminium smelter at Sunndalsoera in the county of Moere og Romsdal.
This includes the building of four purification plants costing NOK 315 million.
These plants will also be used to reclaim a considerable amount of energy, according to Hydro Aluminium's press release, quoted by NRK.
The building of the purification plants will start in November, and the modernized smelter will be ready by 2004. After the refurbishing, the Hydro Aluminium Sunndal will be Europe's largest aluminium smelter.
