Norcontrol IT has been chosen by the Swedish Maritime Administration to supply and install the Vessel Traffic Service and associated systems for the Swedish East Coast VTS. This contract follows last year's Q2 announcement that Norcontrol IT was to supply and install the Swedish West Coast VTS.
Similar in scope to the now completed West Coast VTS, the East Coast installation will feature multiple radar sites, AIS and operator workstations. It will cover the approaches to the Stockholm and Södertälje areas on the East Coast of Sweden. The VTC (Vessel Traffic Control) centre is based at Södertälje and will utilise 3 operator workstations equipped with Norcontrol IT's VOC5060 software. Additionally, the VTS will be connected to the Swedish National AIS Network.
"Once the East Coast VTS installation is completed, it will provide the same safety and operational benefits enjoyed on the West Coast of Sweden," comments Jan Anders Horntvedt, Managing Director, Norcontrol IT. "This contract was an option to last year's West Coast project so we are extremely happy that the Swedish Maritime Administration has chosen Norcontrol IT once again."
The VTC will be completed in November with AIS input, with full radar input to follow in January 06. The entire VTS with full radar and AIS functionality is scheduled to be complete by 9th June 2006.
