New Windpower Plant Licence Awarded

According to the Aftenposten, the Oil and Energy Department has awarded Norway's Statkraft the licence for the building and operating of a windpower plant on the island of Smoela in the county of Moere and Romsdal. The new powerplant will consist of 72 windmills and the aim is to produce 3 TerraWattHours of Windpower by the year 2010. "This project is a very important part of the Government's investments in renewable forms of energy in Norway", said Oil and Energy Minister, Olav Axelsen. Construction work will start this fall and will result in providing 20,000 homes with electricity.
