Another 40 years have been added to the productive life of Norway's oldest oil field.
The Ekofisk Field was opened by Conoco Phillips 42 years ago. With the addition of the new Ekofisk South, opened by Oil Minister Tord Lien on Tuesday, the productive life of the field has been substantially extended.
The Ekofisk South project includes the planned drilling of 35 new production wells and eight water injection wells. One well is currently producing. Drilling is underway on additional wells and production is expected to ramp up over the next four years as new wells are brought on line.
