Mobilizing for Norwegian-Brazilian cooperation

(Photo: Runa Hestmann ) Authorities in Norway and Brazil have for several years been working to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries. The result of the work was that the Research Council, represented by the petroleum program PETROMAKS 2, and the Brazilian research council FINEP launched a joint call in 2015. The joint call focuses on technology development for offshore petroleum industry - a sector where cooperation between the two countries have come a long way.

The two day-workshop was held at the Brazilian Development Bank BNDES in Rio de Janeiro, and was a good meeting place for enterprises, research institutions and authorities.

- Useful meeting

The Research Council of Norway was represented by Consul – Science and Technology Rune Andersen.

- It was useful for the smaller supply companies to meet, while simultaneously receiving input from end users about technology challenges and needs, says Andersen.

Joint Announcement with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises

The joint call focuses particularly on small and medium-sized enterprises, although larger businesses are also allowed to apply. Research institutions can participate in the projects being developed as research partners.

- The application deadline is coming up soon, and part of the intention with the workshop was to allow the businesses that wanted to participate to work out the final details and get information from authorities and prospective customers of the project results, Andersen explains.

- Participants showed great commitment and gave me high expectations that we will get good applications with qualified partners from both countries, he concludes.
