Mitox OY streamlines multi-vendor meter communications with Powel ELIN

Powel announced today that it has signed an agreement with Mitox OY in Finland to deliver its smart metering platform (Powel ELIN) to improve Mitox's metering services.

Powel ELIN will collect and validate meter data from more than 30.000 Iskraemeco and Kamstrup smart meters in Finland before sending the data to the utility for use in its meter-to-cash process.

Powel's smart metering platform will replace two existing systems, reducing the overall cost of ownership and streamlining metering processes. Powel ELIN is an open platform solution allowing Mitox to provide its services using a variety of different meter types. Future services from Mitox will include using meter data to provide value added services for Smart Grid applications. Meter values, events and power quality data can easily be captured and utilized within network operations to offer better services and reliability to utility consumers.

‘We are looking forward to having the new system from Powel up and running. Powel ELIN was selected because of its proven track record supporting multi-vendor communications. We believe this implementation will expand our offerings and provide better service to our customers.” said Jörgen Johansson, Unit Manager for Mitox's system services department.

The implementation is expected to be completed in May 2012 and will support the Mitox Meme energy measurement concept, allowing different forms of energy metering data to be transferred through one communication channel. The open architecture allows for the collection of data from energy measurement devices supplied by different hardware vendors. The Meme concept is used successfully in different parts of Helsinki today.

"The ELIN platform is a good fit for service providers like Mitox who need a scalable, open platform to support their services to utilities in Finland. Having the flexibility of managing a variety of meter types is extremely important for service providers," said Mats Ekelund, Managing Director at Powel Energy Management. "When utilities require more information to support smart grid functionality, Powel ELIN will be able to supply the critical information and data needed for network analysis."
