Kværner wins ultradeep project

Kværner has received a major contract to supply subsea equipment for the sprawling Canyon Express oil field development in the Gulf of Mexico.

Part of the USD 28 million (NOK 255 million) job is to provide 100 km of sophisticated steel cables, electrical cables and fibre optic cables that will be installed in water depths of up to 2,200 m - a new record for such cables. The cables will be produced at Kværner Oilfield Products' facility in Moss, Norway, and delivered by early summer 2001. The operator of Canyon Express is Elf Exploration, but Kværner's contract is with offshore building contractor Saipem.
