Kværner considers split-up

The board of directors and executive leadership of Kværner - Norway's largest concern without state ownership - acknowledged they are thinking about dividing the troubled industrial giant into smaller units.

In response to criticism from stock analyst Glen Rødland, who had told Dagens Næringsliv that Kværner must be split up to preserve stockholder value, Kværner CEO Kjell Almskog said: "Those thoughts that Glen Rødland has trotted out, about a possible division into smaller units, are not as foreign to us as the newspaper implies. On the contrary we have for some time been analysing models in that direction."
