Emerson Process Management, in France, has awarded Kongsberg Maritime, Process Simulation (including former Fantoft Process Technologies) the contract to deliver an Operator Training Simulator for Total's Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for the AKPO field development.
"This contract award is the result of our worldwide experience in supplying high-fidelity lifecycle simulators for challenging deepwater projects," says Mr. Knut Erik Spilling, Head of Sales & Marketing for Process Simulation. "The Operator Training Simulator will be used to train operators prior to the field start-up and will also be used to verify the Integrated Control and Safety System."
The AKPO Operator Training Simulator will include:
- D-SPICE dynamic model of FPSO processing facilities, including seamless integration of OLGA models of the four subsea multiphase flow loops
- D-SPICE instructor station and overall simulator management
- DeltaV control system (soft controller version)
- D-SPICE emulator of the Triconex safety system
The AKPO field is located 200 kilometres off the coast of Nigeria, in water depths of 1100 to 1700 meters. Discovered in 2000, the AKPO field is scheduled to commence production in the last quarter of 2008 and is expected to quickly reach peak production 225,000 barrels of oil per day, of which nearly 80 percent will be condensate.
