Key figures for the Research Council for 2011

The publication Key figures for the Research Council provides statistics for projects, allocations and grant applications and key figures for the Council’s allocations for the period 2007-2011.

New features this year are statistics for Norwegian participation in the EU Seventh Framework Programme and statistics for projects receiving support under the SkatteFUNN tax deduction scheme. For the first time, the health trusts have been categorised as their own sector.

The full version of Key figures for the Research Council is available in Norwegian only. In addition, an abridged English version has been prepared.

Grant applications and funding

Each year the Research Council receives around 5 000 grant proposals for funding of new projects. At any given time there are some 5 500 ongoing projects using grants awarded in a previous year.

The Research Council administers allocations from 16 ministries. As of 2012, these totalled more than NOK 7 billion a year. Nearly 40 per cent of this funding is allocated by the Ministry of Education and Research.

Just over 50 per cent of the Research Council’s allocations are awarded to institutions of higher education and independent research institutes. Nearly 50 per cent of the allocations are distributed via the Council’s research programmes.
