Jackpot for Norwegian drilling companies

Three Norwegian rig-companies have received new contracts from Brasilian Petrobras for a total of 11 drilling ships. Seadrill, Ocean-Rig and Odfjell Drilling are in for 15 year contracts with newbuilds.

Ocean Rig was awarded contracts for 5 new drilling-ships to Petrobras on 15 year contracts. The new rigs are to be delivered within 4 to 7 years. 

Seadrill and Odfjell Drilling are in with 3 newbuilds probably via Sete Brasil, their local company.

According to the Brasilian company, the dayrates range from 530.000 to 548.000 usd, adding up to a total expected income for the Norwegian companies of app 34 billion usd.

According to sources, the local content in the newbuild contracts is supposed to be 55-60 per cent. In addition to the new 26 rigs on order in the Brasilian market, 14 rigs have already been committed in earlier consecssions by Petrobras.
