Innovative approach to Subsea Training

OLF, Operators, Equipment suppliers and the Norwegian Centre of Expertise for Subsea (NCE Subsea) have reached agreement with ibruk to create a new training and information portal for Subsea Production.

As Subsea Oil and Gas development worldwide continues to increase in importance, the Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) and ibruk, a Kongsberg documentation and training company, have initiated a Joint Industry Project to help the industry increase the competence of the professionals involved.

In a press release they say that the information portal will also raise awareness of the Subsea business outside the oil industry, including in schools and universities.

The project team, with participation form Statoil, BP, Det norske, Aker Solutions, FMC Norge and NCE Subsea (Bergen) are developing an innovative, web based training portal for subsea equipment and associated interactive learning materials.

The portal will use up-to-date IT technology to present user friendly explanations of the concepts and components for Subsea field developments, including 3D illustrations, diagrams, photos, videos and self assessments. It is based on the wikipedia concept so users can add to the descriptions and content. A second objective of the portal is to provide a direct link for specific users, to project specific drawings, maintenance and operating data aligned with the latest industry standards for life cycle product information. The portal will be accessible by any user under normal licensing terms from around end 3Q 2010 with discounts for universities and students.

"Our initiative is based on the manifested need for a joint training solution for this particular technical field" says Manager Stein Tore Johnsen in ibruk. "It is clear that we need to get better at explaining how Subsea production actually works - doing that will both help those that have links with subsea activities now and inspire young engineers to join the industry in the future" says David Llewelyn, OLF's Subsea Network Coordinator.

OLF, The Norwegian Oil Industry Association, is a professional body and employer's association for oil and supplier companies engaged in the field of exploration and production of oil and gas on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. OLF is a member of the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO).

ibruk is a total supplier of documentation and training solutions for industrial products. Ibruk have long experience within the field and work with customers as Kongsberg Gruppen, Aker Solutions, FMC and Odim.
