Norway's production and consumption of electricity will both break records this year.
Energy officials said hydropower production is expected to increase 16 percent to 142.5 TWh compared with last year, while total consumption will grow 2.6 percent to 124 TWh. Thanks to generous rainfall in 2000, the flow of water to production facilities has been 25 percent higher than normal. While consumption by average households increased 1.2 percent, consumption by power-intensive industries such as metal, chemical and timber production jumped 6.9 percent. During the year Norwegian power producers also exported more than they ever have before.
