Hagen predicts fall of Labour

Carl I. Hagen, the leader of Norway's right-wing, populistic Progress Party, said there is a good chance Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and his ruling Labour Party will lose power this fall as a result of budget conflicts with the centrist parties.

Hagen is no disinterested observer, however. In recent months his party has surged in popularity, passing the Labour Party in opinion polls while calling simultaneously for lower taxes and increased health care spending. Hagen's advance - and his history as an anti-immigration crusader - has aroused curiosity and some concern around Europe.
