Four new exploratory wells in the Barents Sea

Norwegian oil companies are planning to drill four new exploratory wells in the Barents Sea.

Norwegian oil companies are planning to drill four new exploratory wells in the Barents Sea.

This could mean that nearly 20 per cent of the total exploratory activity on the Norwegian Shelf this year will take place off the Finnmark coast, NRK reports.

In addition, new areas for exploration have been released around the Snoehvit Field and Goliat, seven years after the last licences for oil and gas were awarded in the Barents Sea.

-We hope that in the next round, it will also be opened up for new exploratory drilling off the coast of Nordland and Troms, says Per Terje Wold, CEO of the National Association of the Oil Industry.
