Exploratory drilling may be postponed

Exploratory drilling for oil off the coast of Finnmark next fall may be postponed.

Exploratory drilling for oil off the coast of Finnmark next fall may be postponed.

The reason is that the oil companies are not able to find authorized drill rigs, NRK reports.

Statoil, Hydro and Eni Norge had planned to drill altogether four wells, but time is now about to run out, says Eni Norge CEO Sverre Bore.

He admits that the company was taken unawares by the present situation on the rig market.

If a rig does not turn up within the next few days, the company will drop the plans to drill on the Goliath Field off the island of Soeroeya this fall.

Hydro is still optimistic about finding a drill rig which is authorized for drilling in the Barents Sea.

-We are working intensively together with Statoil in our attempt at beginning the drilling campaign, and we are at present concretely checking out rigs for this purpose, says Hydro information director Lars Bjelvin.
