Email address as user name

The Research Council of Norway is simplifying log-in procedures for “My RCN Web” by implementing email addresses as user names. From now on, users need only to remember their original password and their own email addresses to be able to access “My RCN Web”.

If you have forgotten your password you will be able to generate a new one as before, by entering your email address.

The new log-in procedure will be launched on Wednesday 21 March. Please note that “My RCN Web” will be unavailable for a few hours from 16:00 hours CET on Tuesday 20 March.

“For most people, the new procedure only means that the log-in screen will be changed a bit, and that it will be even easier to log in. For users who have had several previous user names tied to a single email address the new procedure will make logging in a much more streamlined process,” says Ingrid Blom at the Research Council.

“Up to this point it has been possible to create more than one user name based on the same email address. Users have thus not been notified when they have created a new user name linked to the same email address as an existing user name. This means that some people have had to log in with different user names to access their various grant applications and projects. Now all the information relating to one and the same email address will be linked to a unique user identity,” explains Ms Blom.
