DSIC Offshore grabs COSL deals

Chinese yard Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC Offshore) has signed two separate contracts with China Oilfield Services Ltd (COSL), the country's top offshore contractor, to build a deep-water semi-submersible drilling rig and a jack-up.

The semi-sub, to be built to the A5000 design of Norway's Agility Group, is a high specification unit capable of working in water depths of 5000 feet, and will have a drilling capacity of 30,000 feet.

In the signing ceremony held at COSL's headquarters in Yanjiao on Wednesday, DSIC Offshore committed to completing the fabrication in about 35 months.

The rig — to be named Hai Yang Shi You 982 — will be the sister unit to Hai Yang Shi You 981, an ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rated to 10,000 feet, and built by SWS two years ago. SWS was also in the running for COSL's latest rig building contract, as was CIMC Raffles.
