Big telecoms eye Enitel

The battle for market share in the Scandinavian mobile telephone service market is heating up, with France Telecom and Deutsche Telecom reportedly hunting for shares in Norway’s Enitel and Denmark’s Tele Danmark. Enitel’s managing director, Øyvind Hauge, has seen his stock price shoot up 46 percent since Wednesday, even though the company’s credit rating was downgraded by the rating bureau Standard & Poor. Last month Enitel was awarded a hotly contested license to built part of Norway’s third-generation mobile infrastructure, a project for which the company has reportedly been seeking a financing partner.
